Soooo….are you getting enough greens on a daily basis?! Most of us know the (honest) answer to that question 😬.

On average, less than 20% of us are getting the recommended 8-12 servings of fruits and veggies daily. We know we should, and many of us even try, but it’s not always easy!

There are seemingly endless benefits to getting your fruits and veggies- here are a few:

They reduce

-the risk of cardiovascular disease

-the risk of certain types of cancers

-the risk of type 2 diabetes

-the risk of stroke

-high blood pressure

And so many other health related issues!

They are also high in antioxidants- which help fight toxins in our bodies.

They help return our bodies to an alkaline state – which is important for overall health.

And they help our bodies avoid nutrient deficiencies- which may cause us to feel tired or lack energy.

If you feel that you are in the 80% 😳 of the population that are not getting enough fruits and veggies- this might be where a great quality greens supplement comes in handy!

Greens supplements are veggies, fruits, algaes and grasses that have been compounded and distilled into powder form and can be taken as a capsule or in your daily smoothie. Some of the most common nutrient rich foods in a greens supplement include vegetables, legumes, fruits, what grass, barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina, chlorella and herbs. These are full of vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytonutrients.

Of course real food is always the best option for getting all the nutrients we need and I would always recommend to get as much of these nutrient rich foods through your diet, but when you aren’t or can’t, a high quality greens supplement is a great way to get them in!

I take a greens supplement on a daily basis. I add them to my green smoothie and I am being 100% honest when I say that I can absolutely feel the difference in my energy level when I don’t get them in!

Not all greens supplements are created equal so make sure you find a high quality (note how many times I’ve said this 😉) one with no extra additives or fillers. Look for cold pressed, raw, organic and non GMO products. My favourite that I use daily is Pure Synergy – find it on Amazon!

PS- here is my green smoothie recipe I have daily!

Handful of fresh spinach and kale

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

1tbsp Pure Synergy Greens

1tsp tumeric

Pinch of cayenne pepper

1 small chunk of fresh ginger

1tbsp lemon juice

A few ice cubes

1/3c coconut water or regular water

Blend until smooth and enjoy!

As always, I’m here to help you out with any questions or concerns you may have regarding training, nutrition, mind set or smashing those goals!
